A brief and personal input to someone who asked me about REIKI…

Consciousness has its own healing force ... healing energies – love and its divine intelligence - call it what you may. There are different kinds of methods to tap into this one healing force, of Oneness. Reiki is one such key into this inbuilt inherent aspect of consciousness!

The history or story of how Dr, Mikao Usi tapped into it reiki is available on any reiki site- but in brief- in search of a way to heal the people, rather than only cure them, Dr Mikao Usi tapped into certain symbols with the message that these would help him towards a more holistic healing. As he tried them and saw its results he decided to share this with others who may thus do like wise. It is these symbols which are taught or bequeathed when you learn Reiki. You need to visualize them along with chanting a set of 'words' with each.... to activate your healing powers... to feel the universal energy flow from you. As you master one set of symbols and use it, are you ready for the next- there generally being three levels of such symbols- known as reiki attunements.

Through time, different people tap into different ways of how to use this universal healing energy inherent in the universe or consciousness. Also different methods often tap into different ASPECTS of this one healing force- for example reiki according to me taps into the unconditional love, balancing, healing aspect in its gentlest and purest essence (symbolized as white light) ; pranic healing is more ‘kali’ energy being utilized, a stronger force, of removal of the old for new to be (using different colors for different things.) Likewise other holistic healing systems differ only in method ( of tapping into this one healing force) ; or in which aspect of it they mainly focus on... utilize ( becasue all healing methods will incorporate a blend of all aspects.) Thus is reiki so popular- for it is amongst the easiest of energies to use without side effects which can be present in stronger forms of healing. It indeed allows us to tap into ... that aspect of consciousness which we could call 'divine wisdom inherent in its unconditional love’.

Now, according to me, the reiki symbols which one needs to use/conjure/utilize are ‘tools’ to tap this healing energy. The layman whose energy fields are not expanded, requires these symbols, to tap into it. And Dr Mikao Usi tapped into these symbols as a way for all of humanity, expanded or not, to utilize this energy though these tools- much like keys opening out the vault for you. However once you expand your energy field, as your merge with wider /higher/deeper aspects of self, as your personal energy filed and universal energy field become increasingly one, you need not the keys- for you are within the vault itself. You can access these energies directly, on an increasingly moment to moment basis! Indeed the ultimate reiki symbol is often called the Master symbol- but as you become Master yourself, you don’t need a symbol or tool to reach this aspect of self. Which is what these beautiful symbols/tools enabled! And yet you can use them, as a means to hone your intent, come into sync or a conscious trigger to ‘start’ the healing process. This also why reiki attunements were/are ideally done over time… so that you can expand your energy fields as you use the symbols of any one ‘level’; and in that be ready for more expansion- in reiki terms ready to use the second level of symbols!

Hope this brief input answers you at some level sweetie! Reiki is not to be considered better than or less than any system as each has its strengths; also each is suitable to or resonates with different kinds of people! Neither must we energy workers, who use more spontaneous methods based on expansion of energy fields look at any such ‘system’ as less- for each has its own validity- take from all what can help you, aid you. Indeed Reiki is a beautiful way to start for many … for you tangibly feel the energy emanating forth from you…and yet once you expand your energy fields to where those symbols help take you temporarily…you need not any method …but define you own. Reiki also opened up the concept of holistic energy healing to a wider world consciousness, as many who were otherwise wary or thought it mumbo jumbo became familiar with it. Perhaps part of Reikis’ purpose was that, to come into the world, at the right time as an introduction to this aspect of life…. to make critical mass human consciousness aware of it!
