IN...SERVICE

True service is when the service serves the server!

I truly serve,
In feeling served through my service,

I best reach out, when I reach within in fulfillment

Service serves the server
Or it becomes other things
Duty, responsibility and the granting of favors

Let me serve in this sweet knowing

i must play my role in enabling my server, to feel served through his service!

be it through appreciation or exchange apprprorate to the service

There is a subtle yet all important difference in service and words like duty and responsibility. Because both duty and responsibility imply a sense of doing for ‘another’; they imply doing something you feel you 'must'- and in that you are really not doing it naturally…but from some sense of needing to do it. The joy and fulfillment does not arise from within the activity itself…but from trying to please an outside source. And true service towards another can only be when the action/service is being done from a sense of fulfillment within it/self.

This does not mean we move away from duties and responsibilities… there is a time and space for each experience. But service is happening through you when you are being served through it...when it fufills you too....or it shifts subtly to duty. Or to that feeling of granting favors! Think of this from personal examples. When you are doing something for your child; as different from when you are doing something with your child. Service of course, like all universal truths, can be understood at several layers, none truer than the other, as each makes up the step for the next; and it is important to peel the cosmic onion on service ...perhaps over the next few mails!
