LIVING IN THE NOW-July 2002 -My very first writing
We have all heard of living in the NOW. Sages and spiritual books have been gently prodding us as seekers of 'truth' to inculcate this in our day-to-day lives. Most of us understand this as letting go of the past and not worrying about the future. While this aspect of the concept of Now is a precious gem in itself, if we take this simple truth further, it literally opens up a whole new world!
Linear time: past, present and future, is a framework which exists in the three dimensional human world here on our planet Earth. In the larger truth however there is NO TIME (OR SPACE). As humans, we find it difficult indeed to grasp other than intellectually, this concept of there being: NO TIME AND EVERYTHING HAPPENING IN THE NOW. And of course the truth that follows: IF THERE IS NO THING AS TIME THEN EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING NOW, HENCE CONCURRENTLY! This further implies that OUR MANY LIVES ARE NOT IN THE PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE EITHER, as we are wont to believe… simply because there is no past, present and future!! It is not that we don’t ‘reincarnate’. We indeed live many, many lives, which in the linear framework of humans we VIEW in time slots. But the ACTUALITY is that all of our lives are happening now, concurrently!! There only SEEMS to be an expanse of 'time' in between re-incarnational existences… or that one life follows another… or one moment follows another. However in the larger context the truth is closer to OUR LIVES BEING A MULTIPLE, SIMULTANEOUS EXISTENCE IN A MULTIDIMENSIONAL REALITY. In fact our usual vocabulary does not have words to really describe this and thus I will use the language of analogy that uses words to take us beyond them and understand truths somewhere deeply within and beyond the intellectual!
One simple analogy is to imagine yourself born and brought up on say, a train! Imagine you have never got off, and don’t know a life other than on that train. As this train travels from point A to point B to point C, you will view those points and what is happening at each point, as existing/happening one after the other! You will not know that if you got off that train, and viewed those separate points and events from a distance, all of those would be existing concurrently!! Now try and understand that all your lives may be viewed in exactly that manner!
A more detailed understanding can be attempted through an analogy of our physical body: which is made of many billions of cells. Now these cells obviously exist all at once and make up our physical form. Seth instructs us to: "Similarly imagine that you have many ‘lives’ in the same fashion. Instead of cells making up an individual body, imagine these SELVES making up a much larger 'YOU"! Let’s include a little biology and further understand that each cell is actually an inviolate self: with its own miniature brain, memory of all its personal experiences and of its relationship with other cells, and with the body has a whole. So simply put, each cell is a 'whole' entity with its own 'memory'. Each cell has its own position in our physical body, and while it is connected TO this entire body it is not 'aware' OF the entire body/dimension in which it dwells. In spite of this, the die-ease or joy in even one cell affects the entire body, and vice versa the body’s overall health or state of mind in turn affects each cell!!
Similarly, instead of cells, we can now consider our various (‘past, present, future’) selves forming a psychic structure… entity …being ness…and making up what we can refer to as our ‘Larger or Higher self’. We must understand that this larger entity made up of all our selves, is however, as real as our physical one composed of cells. Hence, what we thought of as our ‘past’, ‘present’ and ‘future’ lives are infact NOW a part of this greater self…YOU!! They exist simultaneously, and each ‘life’ contributes to the other, just like our cells do!! It is also due to this that one can ‘visit’ or ‘tune into’ past and future events! They are not ‘dead’ and gone or ‘yet to come'.
Most of us are also probably aware, that the cells in our body constantly 'die' and are replaced, yet the organs they make up, retain their form intact! Our arm or leg does not constantly change its shape or location. Similarly we live and die our many ‘lives’ yet our Larger Self retains its ‘Identity’ and knows that its more developed and larger being rests upon each of its ‘lives’ and that they all exist together in the NOW. For our larger self these ‘other selves’ are as natural as our arms and legs maybe to us.
However, even though time does not exist, as we ‘know’ it, humanity is neurologically compelled to perceive it as a series of passing moments. (Though one may glimpse ‘The NOW’ in states of meditation or heightened awareness.) We have chosen this linear experience, for many reasons, but simply put, we have chosen to have a one pointed focus so that we can in this acute focus hone our current feelings, thoughts, beliefs… and thereby expand them back to source self! Once we become aware however that our other selves indeed ‘exist’, we can tap into this combined energy, and initiate a process of drawing into our NOW our larger experience, essence and energy.
There are many more analogies to help us understand this concept, as it is a difficult at first to grasp it other than intellectually. HOWEVER WE ARE MERELY OPENING THE FIRST LAYER HERE, TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS INDEED NO (LINEAR) TIME, AND THAT WE ARE LIVING ALL OUR LIVES NOW. Seth repeatedly emphasizes that the point of power is NOW, and describes it as that ‘spacious moment’ because within this moment- you may experience a lifetime, a second, or centuries…
Once we absorb this and its implications, it opens up a whole new world or should I say worlds… for us to explore! The role of karma, then? And more importantly, step by (practical) step of how to use this knowledge to improve our current reality! Divya Kumar-july 2002
2-A FURTHER ANALOGY INTO SIMULTANEOUS TIME (Elaborated from an established psychic’s point of view)
When we deal with matters pertaining to the larger universe, beyond our planet or life, as we know it, we need to understand that the ‘thorough explanation’ we all seek is limited by our present vocabulary and perceptions. Simultaneous Time, which conveys to us that everything is happening Now… concurrently… appears utterly incredible and incomprehensible to our limited understanding. Hence further analogies may help in indicating the lines along which an explanation may lie and bring us closer to the truth, if not exactly to it! Of course an attempt to describe larger reality is a little like the difficulty experienced by an artist who endeavors to reproduce a three dimensional landscape on a flat uni-dimensional canvas. He can, through his skills and experience, faithfully try to reproduce the scene before him, but even then, even the most perfect ‘picture’ is in reality infinitely far from the real vision in front of him. At its best it is an attempt engaging only one of our five senses, an impression of what actually is. And thus does each ones own experience help in conveying the roar of the sea or scent of the flowers… or convey nothing beyond what the picture depicts. So go beyond my words…to where they can take you instead!
We will start with some simple scientific information, easily verifiable. Whenever we ‘see’ something, whether it is this paper in your hands, or a star millions of miles away, we do so by the means of a vibration in the ether, commonly known to us as a ray of light. This ray of light passes from the object seen, to our eyes, and remains unchanged in its journey from object to eyes. The speed with which this vibration passes is about 186,000 miles per second. This by itself may mean nothing except we realize it sounds an amazing speed and hence explains why, whilst viewing objects in our world, close to us and far closer than 186000 miles, this ‘seeing’ is practically instantaneous.
However if we view objects further away, say for example the sun, then this speed begins to make a difference .The time taken for the light to travel from the sun to us for the viewing to take place, is approx eight and a quarter minutes! Thus as we are seeing the sun we are seeing it through a ray of light that left it those many minutes ago! From this follows a curious result: This ray of light left the sun 8 and quarter minutes ago, and hence we are seeing it now, as it was 8 and quarter minutes before. If anything important did take place on the sun in this duration, say some new sunspots just when we are actually viewing the sun through the telescope, we would not be able to see that incident while it was happening since the ray of light bearing that news would not reach us till more than 8 minutes later!
This difference is even more striking when we consider objects at an enormously greater distance. The pole star for example, is so far, that it takes the ray of light approx a little more than 50 years to reach our eyes. From this follows the strange but inevitable inference that we see this pole star not as and where it is at this moment but as and where it was fifty years ago!! So if some catastrophe had happened in the interim and wiped it off the face of the universe, we would still see it shining peacefully in the sky, infact so would our children till their middle age, before we could all ‘see’ that disaster taking place!!! Similarly there are stars in the galaxy thousand of light years away, and we see them now, as they were actually thousands of years ago!
Just to get a feel of this: imagine a man at the distance of 186000 miles away, miraculously endowed by the faculty to see from that distance what was happening here! By now, we understand that he would be seeing events here a second after they really happened. Double his distance, and so on, removing him to the distance of the pole star (still mysteriously allowing him to preserve this magical vision!) and he would be seeing passing before his eyes the events of fifty years ago! He would be actually seeing the children playing for example, when at that very moment they were the laid back 50-year-old adults probably taking an afternoon nap!!!
God or the Divine source being omnipresent is present at every station or point on that ray of light, not successively but simultaneously! Granting this, we arrive at the inevitable deduction that everything that has ever happened from the very beginning must be taking place at this very moment before the ‘eyes’ of this God!! Not a mere memory of it, but the actual occurrence!! So it is all actually happening concurrently, in the NOW!
As said in the introduction, this line of thought just gives a glimpse into how simultaneous time may exist. At the least, it can broaden our minds to suggest a direction in which further explanation may lie and help us realize that so astounding a statement may after all not be wholly impossible!

3-THE FUTURE COMES BEFORE THE PAST (Another revelation through an in-depth understanding of Seth)
We are now beginning to perceive a strange curiosity in all that we have been reading. A startling fact begins to gnaw at our consciousness if we have truly grasped all that we have been reading! While we are beginning to understand that creation, and thus ‘time’ as we view it, is more ‘cyclic’ (within infinite cycles) than sequential linear lines our intellect probably still resists its further implications:
1-The strange phenomenon that the PAST is not necessarily ‘before’ the FUTURE as we are so used to thinking! There is no one SEQUENCE, which necessarily puts the future ‘after’ the past or vice versa!
Having already seen that Source creates our universe and us, we now know that we are already that Source. From this follows the startling understanding, that if our soul/sole ;-) purpose is to ‘Be’ that source (again) we indeed begin with our future! Our Higher Selves, which we usually perceive of as our ‘future selves’, are created first! They then create our ‘past’ and current selves! The future appears first! Then the ‘past’ selves are created which go ‘back’ to the future.
If we really think about it, we can see this even in our current reality. We all first ‘create’ a future image- aim- goal, and then ‘come back’ to the present to work towards it! Students create the goal of success in their exams, businessmen of a deal completed. Then we come back to the present, in putting in the effort and actions to actually ‘re-experience’ that ‘future’ at some point in ‘time’ on a physical realm! So what came first?
We have already seen how the inner creates the outer. How everything EXISTS in the inner before taking form (only) in the outer. Hence the future is first created in what we call our minds eye (and though in this reality with our limited perception we do not acknowledge its existence) it already has structure in etheric realms! This future thus exists as real and is often referred to as the first creation! Its latter manifestation into our physical realms-the present-is then referred to as the second creation!
2- This brings us to another surprising truth that the past is not as static, final and finished as we seem to consider it! We think our only options of change and growth is in the future. But we now begin to glimpse that the past is as open to change, and holds as many opportunities!
We all know by now that disease in the body is due to some dis-ease in the self. Most holistic healing (as different from temporary cures through medication) is done through healing these issues of dis-ease in the self. Naturally the issues have occurred sometime in the ‘past’, but in healing them, we actually go into this past from the current point of NOW, in order to deal with and change them!! We don’t even begin to think, that we have indeed gone back into the ‘past’. Imagine please, this hand of the future self literally stretching back into the past self and ‘removing’ the problem!! This example can be further viewed in our day-to-day areas: in ‘resolving’ and changing past hurts in relationships and thereby changing that relationship in the present!!! If we carefully consider this it shows us that we do indeed go back into the past and can indeed change it! I urge you all to come up with your real life examples to truly grasp this! See where your goal -a point in the future- required you to come ‘back’ into its past, towards its manifestation! See how you have indeed gone back into your ‘past’, perhaps healed an issue with a friend, and a relationship that had soured, now revitalizes! Understand that you already are what you want to be: Source! And to take this further… any change in the now...changes both your past and future too! In analogy, let’s say you understand how what you viewed as a period of lack was actually the best thing that could’ve happened to you…leading you to an abundant self!! In that, the ‘past’ changes…but so does the future for you do not operate from lack any more! And you will thus not create it further!
All this brings us back to the NOW…as the ‘future’ and ‘past’ are mere concepts that our currently limited human perception uses, to help us deal with the vastness of the NOW. We are neurologically ‘wired’ thus, to enable the physical self to focus on ‘each’ life! It is like going to a movie, and shutting off mobile phones and contact with the outside world so that we are not disturbed and can focus wholly on the movie we have chosen! A whole lifetime or more may occur in the movie, but ‘outside’ it is still the NOW!
All is simultaneous: The Un-Manifest, Manifest and Every ‘Self’ in between! This may answer that eternal question: which came first? The chicken or the egg!! Both came simultaneously, that’s the only way they could have!!! Please understand that these concepts I present here are just starting points from which we may then begin to expand our concepts of the past, present and future (and our vocabulary) that we take so for granted.

4-MULTI-DIMENSIONAL SELF-The Larger Divine Consciousness rests upon our own!! We each contribute to God!!
Like each piece of mosaic offers its self to make up the larger mural, every bit of knowledge we acquire helps us in developing a larger picture of reality .As students on this exciting journey, these serendipitous discoveries only make the expedition more exciting. Having been introduced to the concept of simultaneous time we can now discover the connectivity or oneness of the universe in a clearer manner by following the same analogy. We are now more aware, that in addition to the current ‘self’ that our limited awareness permits us to know, all our other lives/selves, are out there living and real in their own ‘time’ and ‘dimension’. Please conjure then, this larger psychic self that we described in our last article. Lets draw in our minds eye this glittering large outline against the sky, of our larger entity made up of all our lives/selves that we think of as ‘past and future’ incarnations! Lets feel now that this larger being is our Larger or Higher Self. And thus, let us recognize that we possess within our current self, all of those potentials! We are indeed so many qualities, skills, experiences and personalities! We are literally more, than the limited self we currently identify with. Moreover, whilst we may yet be unaware of our other ‘selves’, there is a constant give and take going on within them, beyond our current three-dimensional perception! Below the surface of our conscious minds, much exchange is continuously taking place. Our larger being has its existence in multitudinous dimensions, and we ‘meet’ in ways unknown as yet to us! However on a more day-to-day practical note, once we realize this, we can draw from them the energy, knowledge, and awareness we all so yearn for. Very often skills and qualities from our other selves ‘bleed’ over into our current lives, which we dimly perceive of as latent skills or inspiration. If we so wish, by this awareness alone, we can now tune into these and draw on them to expand our current reality. This same line of thought can now be expanded to include the entire universe. Just like our outline is in the sky, please imagine the outlines of our friends and families and then… indeed… everyone! All of these forming a larger and larger consciousness by connecting to each other…till my larger self is indeed that Divine Consciousness- God or whatever ‘term’ we choose. Literally each cell, each life, each larger being is connected to structure…everyone, everything! Maybe this helps us understand the depth behind the simple yet wondrous truth that we are all indeed one and connected!! Now keeping in your minds the analogy of your current body and each of its unique individual cells: understand that just like the overall consciousness of our body, is aware of more than what each cell individually is, our ‘larger self’ is aware of these larger dimensions of activity more than we may currently be. Moreover, as it encompasses all our lives and indeed the larger universal Self, it can be an important guiding force in our lives. However, each current self plays an equally important part; and just like each cell within our body participates to its degree in our daily physical experience, so do each of our lives to an immeasurably greater extent, contribute to the experiences of our larger self. It is thus in unity and support with each of us that the expansion and vastness of these larger and larger selves rests!! We all have a role to play, and our universe is one large co-operative venture similar to the one-ness of our bodies! Do we ever feel ‘separate’ from our limbs or body parts? How well we look after them, shampooing each strand of hair! Because they are so obviously ‘ours’! If we can now see, how we are indeed connected to everyone and everything around us in the same way, we will really be in tune with this feeling of one ness, and more prepared to live with an attitude of cooperation towards a mutual growth. Isn’t it exciting to realize, that we are indeed so large and encompassing. More so, that our current selves literally contribute to the experience of the Larger Consciousness and infact of God! Indeed, the Divine is ever expanding (Brahman means expansion) and not the state of completion that we sometimes take it to be and its expansion and fulfillment rests upon our own! Just like the bodies over all condition rests on each cell. So not only is God important to us but we are important to Him! Our growth is HIS expansion. This also makes us realize how significant we EACH are. How important a role we all play! That we each have our contribution to so much more than we realize! So tune in dear readers, to the larger you, which exists in more than mere concepts. And you will find a veritable storehouse of possibilities! All in the Now! You will 'view' how you are indeed connected to everything. It will change your current life!! And hence all you’re ‘other’ lives too!! By Divya Kumar- July 2002
