“IF THE BELOVED IS EVERYWHERE THE LOVER IS A VEIL”
“If the Beloved is
everywhere the lover is a veil” – Rumi
‘The Beloved’ is truly within and all around… but by depending on
‘a lover’ - a single focal point outside us - ‘the lover’ veils us from this all encompassing all embracing Love
within and all around. But as we turn within… as the veils between self and Self… between seeker and the True
Beloved drop… Love is discovered within… and it is this Love reflects all
around in the beautiful mirrors we call relationships (personal, impersonal,
intimate, family, friendship or Divine)
Indeed, at its deepest, if there’s no God, Guru or Master outside us,
then there is no ‘Lover’ outside us either! Indeed as long as we depend on
the lover outside, we cannot find the omnipotent immanent Beloved that we are. Be-loved
implies The Beingness of Love… Be love… and in that will we … Be loved!
All of us want this one (or more)
special person whether it is lover, husband, child, friend… but now let us
be aware that as long as we seek and depend on ‘them’…as long as we seek and
depend on love on the outside… as long as we seek and depend on love through
‘another’… we paradoxically prevent the long term fulfillment of exactly what
we are truly truly seeking!
But if all we do is switch our focus within, begin to tap it within-
then love will indeed surround us externally too - in all its wondrous aspects.
Indeed finding The Beloved within… a dropping of the veils… does not mean we
cannot experience or enjoy the love of whom we call others! When we are Love Itself- the lover and the
loved- it will reflect in ways beyond relationships even. But we will know it
is self that reflects Love/The Beloved… and thus we will never ‘need’ another
to feel experience or view love….
In analogy: Like when you pass a mirror in
which you choose to take a peek- you
don’t carry one around all day to look into! Or Like you enjoy a rose…its fragrance, its color
and beauty…if it comes your way….yet you do not require to have a rose every
day? There is no must have, must need… day in day out for your happiness…yet
you enjoy it wholly when it blooms in yr garden or vase or bouquet…?
