UNDERSTANDING
AWARENESS THROUGH A SHIVRATRI MEDITATION
A quick sharing of a edited/condensed
version of a SHIVRATRI group meditation we had last
week: Don't read it as much as experience it...don’t get stuck in the
words...fill with the essence..
Come beloveds, look around this beautiful open
space you find yourself in …deeply absorb everything around you… the trees,
flowers, hills....the sky...and whatever else you see …and sit in this space
for a while; it is not a physical place but symbolic of an inner dimension you
abide in when at rest or mediation...
Now see every blade of grass, every grain of
sand, every tree, flower…the birds … hills…everything take the form or color of
a Shiva …see everything morph into a Shiva… …everything coming alive as an
electric alive blue fire and sit in this awhile…and unto this …all these
myriad forms dissolve… and you are surrounded by blue…Shiva; you are permeated
by Shiva; endowed with Shiva vision…there is only Shiva all around. Sit in this
awhile…
Now come out of this space and walk into your
current lives …see yourself ring the doorbell to your home, see Shiva open
it…see Shiva cleaning your house, see Shiva cooking the food, see Shiva coming
home from work to sit by yr side...see Shiva lying by your side… see Shiva
getting dressed to go to school….see Shiva in everyone… and everything…see
Shiva as the ceiling… the floor you stand on… the walls… the view from the
window….and once again all dissolves unto the blue formless ness of Shiva … sit
in this formlessness for a while…
Come beloveds move out of your homes…see your
city, the people, work colleagues…friends and foes…all as Shiva’s; come
beloveds go higher…see your earth, the stars and planets and the very cosmos
all becoming Shiva …; come beloveds go up or down…see into the ground
now…only molten Shiva . Everything is Shiva… only Shiva is…your very vision has
become Shiva vision… see everything and everyone becoming/as Shiva…there is
only Shiva everywhere, within everything, as everything…nothing exists but
Shiva… sit in this awhile….
And then all these Shiva’s… blend and merge into
the one formless blue alive fire…and from this yes re emerges a splendid form
of Shiva as you know him…the Shiva image you resonate to… and thus tonight on
SHIVRATRI you sit face to face with Shiva the form yes, Shiva the God yes,
Shiva the image you have been in homage to through the years and lives yes… but
in the form you now experience only the formlessness …through him you are
now literally in homage to All that Is… from the smallest grain to
the largest cosmos or time and space itself…and in this you embrace
both the form and formlessness simultaneously…rejecting neither form nor
embracing only the formlessness...
So come beloveds, become aware that as you sit
face to face with Shiva… you looking into his eyes and he into yours… you know
its you looking at All That Is and All That Is is looking unto you….and in this
gnosis something subtle yet vital happens… your consciousness moves from
the ‘you’ looking at Shiva into the Shiva looking at a ‘you…! Sit in this
a while.. ... You Shiva ...All That Is... looking at current self .... And thus
on SHIVRATRI you birth your Shiva hood …become one with Shiva …establish as
Shiva…you abide as Awareness itself …
And beloveds, as Awareness… you are aware that
you are awareness but not what you are aware of…!! Thus As Awareness you
are aware of a ‘you’ ‘your life’ its ‘events’ and ‘ups and downs’; You
/Awareness /Shiva are aware of ‘your thoughts and feelings’…but you
are not that self not the events not the ups or downs or thoughts or
feelings….you are Awareness…still…witness ..
As Awareness Itself you shun not reject not what
you are aware of; as awareness implies that which awareness is aware of…. one
cannot be without the other …! And in this you abide simultaneously as
awareness and its cosmic play! Still yet in motion! At home yet out on an
adventure! Nothing yet everything! Nothings happened yet existence and creation
…joyous SHIVRATRI, joyous birthing in to your Shiva hood… the bliss of
abiding as Awareness..
Stay here awhile; in homage to the Shiva all
around, the Shiva within, the Shiva that you are…in homage to awareness AND
that which awareness is aware of…! In homage to Awareness AND its cosmic play…
